About David
My name’s David and I’m part of the 4th Geospatial Systems CDT cohort at Nottingham University.
My journey to starting this CDT programme has been somewhat unconventional, having originally completed a BSc in Audio Recording Technology at De Montfort University for my undergraduate degree, in what now feels like a lifetime ago.
Over the last few years, I have worked in a variety of analytical roles including customer analytics and econometrics, in the media, marketing, and non-profit sectors. During this time, I completed a master’s in data science at Birkbeck, University of London, where my interest in the application of machine learning to remote sensed and satellite imagery first started. Following this, I studied for a postgraduate diploma in geographic data science, to learn some more focussed skills in GIS and spatial statistics and data analytics.
My main research interests lie in the application of deep learning and time-series ML methods to satellite imagery and the natural environment, to measure, understand, and forecast how these changes may progress in future. My main motivations for applying to the CDT programme was for the opportunity to focus this broad topic into something more specific during the MRes year, as well as the links to industry partners.
Outside of studying, I enjoy playing music and going to gigs, as well as cycling and travelling.
