About Luis
I joined the CDT in September 2022, having graduated from the University of Nottingham with an MEng in Aerospace Engineering the year before. Through my undergraduate degree I was heavily involved in various projects within the university’s small satellite team since its creation in 2018, and I am currently leading the JamSail CubeSat mission, which will be the university’s first satellite. JamSail aims to characterise and map GNSS interference across the globe from low-Earth orbit as well as obtain other GNSS measurements from space for use in assorted research. The mission will also test a new solar sail, which can gradually raise the orbital altitude over time. My research within the CDT involves researching methods for using GNSS for positioning and timing in both high-Earth and Lunar orbits, and beyond.

MRes Research
My MRes project in 2023 looked at options for where a Lunar GNSS network could be located, with a specific interest in the L4 and L5 Lagrange points, to improve coverage and availability. The results from this project suggest these points can significantly improve the theoretical performance of GNSS in Lunar space, with less supporting infrastructure required than dedicated constellations. It is planned this research will lead directly into my PhD, which commences in Autumn 2023.
