Biography

About Matt

I joined the Geospatial Systems CDT in September 2023 as a member of cohort five in Nottingham. I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2019 with a MEng degree in civil engineering. My undergraduate dissertation utilised GNSS technology and machine learning for the structural health monitoring of long-span bridges. During my undergraduate degree, I undertook a summer placement at the Nottingham Geospatial Institute looking at the infrastructure changes required to accommodate connected and autonomous vehicles. Since graduating I have worked in a couple of consultancy roles, most recently as a consultant in roads asset management with a focus on road safety and operations and maintenance.

My current research interests focus on how we can utilise UAVs and machine learning for forest health monitoring. Most recently, my MRes thesis looked at the remote sensing of ramorum disease in UK forests using airborne hyperspectral data. My future work will look at applying machine learning methods to further understanding of lianas in tropical rainforests.
